Toothache Remedies

Whether you feel a mildly or excruciatingly painful toothache, there all sorts of toothache remedies at your fingertips and you may not even need to leave your home. (Though it recommended you make plans to visit a dentist right away!)

Here are the best at-home toothache remedies around.

The most apparent remedy for a nasty toothache is to apply a cold ice pack to the tenderest part of your jaw. This will numb the pain and prevent swelling. You can also place a single ice cube directly onto your sore tooth and gum. Don’t leave the ice cube or ice pack on for more than 20 minutes at a time however. Also, don’t use heat to sooth the pain.

Other toothache remedies are in the form of medications, of course. But you don’t have to rely solely on relatively slow acting pain relievers like Tylenol and Advil – a half an hour can seem a lifetime if you’re waiting for a toothache to go away. Natural toothache remedies like clove oil are wonderful because they provide instant relief. If you have clove oil in your medicine cabinet, simply rub it onto your teeth and gums. As well, you can chew on a garlic clove every morning to help alleviate the pain or make your own paste of cloves (grind up two tablespoons of clovers, mix it with a tablespoon of olive oil, and then apply directly to the area in your mouth that is aching). This at-home remedy does not have long-lasting effects, but it does provide quick relief while you’re waiting for a dentist appointment or for other pain killers to kick in. Dozens of other organic products and herbal toothache remedies are out there too.

Another commonly unknown trick to cure a toothache is to simply massage your earlobe or hand. The earlobe and the area between the forefinger and the thumb are both pressure points on your body and when they are massaged, pain in the jaw and tooth fade within 10 minutes. If your toothache is on the right side of your mouth, rub your right earlobe and/or right hand. Similarly, if your toothache is on the left side of your mouth, rub your left earlobe and/or left hand!

So when you feel that maddening ache coming on, these are some nifty toothache remedies to keep you in good spirit. But once you feel chronic, acute pain – immediately make a dentist appointment.
