Tooth Care
It’s important to care for your body from head to toe. But
if the epidemic of tooth decay says
anything,
it’s that people often neglect
their teeth – some of the most important bones in their body!
Tooth care is underrated.
Don’t accept cavities as inevitable, because
they aren’t. Instead, follow these easy steps of healthy tooth
care.
1. Brush, brush, brush!
You hear it all the time while you’re growing up, but it really
is true. Brush your teeth at least twice a day. If you can
manage to brush in between meals and snacks too, that’s really
ideal. By brushing your teeth, you wash away nasty plaque
buildup that serves as a breeding ground for cavities. (And
remember to floss too!)
2. Add calcium and fluoride to your diet.
Both these minerals help to strengthen the enamel of your
teeth. Calcium isn’t hard to come by in your daily diet, but
unless you drink lots of water, you probably don’t have
sufficient fluoride. Luckily, most good toothpastes have
fluoride.
3. Stay away from the sweets.
This is probably one of the hardest lessons for good tooth
care. As tasty as a bowl of ice cream, a candy bar, or a soda
is, these substances contain natural sugars that are a real
adversary to the health of your teeth. It’s okay to indulge
sometimes, but try to avoid certain foods and drinks like
these. And when you do indulge, make sure to brush your teeth
afterward.
4. Visit your dentist twice a year!
This battles #3 as being the hardest guideline for tooth care.
It seems most of us have a phobia of going to the dentist. But
as long as we take care of our teeth, there’s nothing to be
afraid of! Dentists can catch problems early on and save us a
lot of pain and trouble.
Your teeth are just as important as any other part of your
body and they require extra nurturing to remain intact. So
follow these four rules, and you will be on the road to
excellent tooth care.
