Post Wisdom Tooth Surgery Care
Are you feeling a toothache as those pesky wisdom teeth
finally start to grow in? Is your mouth too crowded for them?
If you’re to undergo tooth extraction surgery for your wisdom
teeth,
here is what you should expect for
post wisdom tooth surgery care.
Firstly, your dentist will prescribe medications to
alleviate the pain and swelling that is inevitable with a
surgery like this. But unless you have complications like “dry
socket” you are free to stay home. Here are some tips on post
wisdom tooth surgery care. If you follow them properly, you
will speed up the recovery process.
After your surgery, you want a blood clot to form around the
areas where your wisdom teeth were pulled. This is so you don’t
bleed too much.
You can help to form these
clots by softly biting down on a piece of gauze for several
hours after your surgery. And once you’ve done this, you must
avoid rinsing out your mouth, spitting, and drinking anything
with a straw. The earlier the stage of recovery, the more
important these post wisdom tooth surgery care tips are!
Now just relax and take it easy. Consume only liquids and
soft foods that require little chewing. (And don’t smoke!) In
fact, you may not be able to chew at all – depending on the
intensity of your surgery. The places in your mouth where teeth
were extracted must never be aggravated. This is why you simply
cannot exercise or endure any strenuous physical activity for
at least five days after surgery. Don’t worry though, you
probably won’t feel very active.
Keep your mouth clean by gently brushing your teeth – you
don’t want an infection to complicate your post wisdom tooth
surgery care. But you don’t want to irritate the extraction
sites either, so don’t scrub there.
During post wisdom tooth surgery care, you will probably
have a slight resemblance to a chipmunk. In order to reduce the
swelling, wrap a cold ice pack around your face. While your
muscles will probably feel stiff for a while, the swelling will
decrease exponentially.
